I love the phrase “catching a gear” to describe a core gifted brain thing.
We are designed to create prolifically and to then share or “transmit” these creations outside of ourselves in some manner:
CREATE:TRANSMIT
The modes and rhythms and volume of our creations and transmitting vary both by person AND by the subcontext of variables within that person’s life.
Often, we have a zillion great ideas and discover ourselves stuck in the traffic jam of them.
Most people struggle to find their one or two good ideas, and most guidance for them is therefore not only not useful to us, it can be actively harmful.
What matters for us is that we figure out what is the most “accurate” or on-point idea or strand of activity to pick up on any given day. Which gear should we click into?
Sure, it can be vital to establish a work plan.
And yes, chunking large projects down into doable bites is also very helpful.
These standard “productivity” ideas may apply to us.
But our problem may be that given how many ideas and directions we have available to us, only one or two at any given time are particularly relevant to both our core output AND our happiness and joy in our lived experience.
(This is the digging for gold phenomenon I have written about elsewhere).
When we get internally aligned accurately to our own inner signal and attunement to God, then we can internally feel an actual sensation of which of the myriad paths of action will best carry us forward.
I call this catching a gear. We feel the almost audible clicking in and the way this will now carry us forward.
It feels amazing by the way!
We are designed for and crave the feeling of momentum, forward movement along our true path of creating/action, which makes sense as we are made in the image of God and are therefore sub-creators to God as the Prime Creator.
When we choose the wrong gear, our journey feels off. We are having to either push too hard or pedal too quickly to feel ourselves moving forward.
This is one of the reasons why I often feel and teach that fundamentally, productivity as it is taught in the mainstream, is POISON to us. And that is a hill I’m willing to die on for the gifted brain tribe.
I’m sharing more about this here if you’d like to join me there. And I welcome and CHERISH your commentary here as well.
In JOY,
Melanie
